WE ARE PREPARING FOR SPRING BREAK AND SUMMER 2010!!!

Over the last year much negative publicity circulated the PORRETTO's grossly accreted sand blowing over the seawall. When Porretto attempted to remedy the situation by removing the large stockpiles of sand she was refused permit despite the recent victory against the state regarding their property rights. Having her hands tied with complaints from the city demanding the sand be removed and the city taking instruction from the Texas General Land Office NOT to grant a permit to Porretto she had no choice but to seek a higher jurisdiction to help assist in clarifying long time inconsistency and help with logical resolve by granting a permit to clean the beach from Ike debris, move sand, sell the the sand and help many on the Island without burdening the tax payers. Problem: The state GLO was proven once again wrong in erosion rates in addition, if proof was shown properties are accreting then, the GLO would be limited on obtaining federal funds and burdening tax payers to implement renourishment projects and claim land they didn't own with ongoing maintenance funding for the beaches This Federal court actions helped many save taxes on funds obtained under erroneous and accurate information.

Due to this Federal Court order allowing Porretto to operate as they had for over 50 years without interferences; to clean and remove accreted sand they were able to make much more progress than allowed by the City or State for almost 14 years which deteriorated the integrity of the property, the family and uses of the beach for the public.

Not limited to the following positive affects the Federal Order had there are many more changes that could possibly assist in reducing numerous debts and spending with our governments and the political leaders who implement programs for these expenses :

A. PORRETTO BEACH Sand was utilized in renourishing several other properties assisting  with the Island’s stabilization and enhancement of beaches along the Island.  REDUCING THE CONCERN and LOSSES OF PROPERTY OWNED ON THE BEACH, DEVELOPMENTS ALONG THE BEACH and CITY BEACHES, PARK BOARD ADDITIONAL TAX BURDENS INITIATED BY THE STATE in THEIR PROCESS ACQUIRING SAND. Below are just a few areas of beach in reciept of PORRETTO BEACH SAND.

Galveton's City's STEWART BEACH

B. REDUCE SIGNIFICANT COSTS ON REQUESTS BY THE STATE FOR U.S. GOVERNMENT FUNDING IN RENOURISHMENT OF BEACHES ALONG GALVESTON and the loss of tax payers land.  Which also contributes to the building of the Island’s economy, businesses and infrastructure.

C. For the public Porretto was able to create more access to the beach by having revenue to repair stairs and ramps the city, county and State do not allocate funds for even though PORRETTO BEACH is included in their stats, data & reports when they acquire beach funds from State or Federal we have never received ANY of those funds as these funds are not nor were provided to PORRETTO BEACH.

D. Dangerous Hurricane Ike debris removal that the City, and State would not issue permit or provide assistance for PORRETTO through IKE FEMA/CEPRA funds. The city and STATE obtained these funds using PORRETTO BEACH area to acquire the funds yet, allocated elsewhere. With federal sand order to sale sand again debris and hazardous material was removed from not only PORRETTO BEACH but also, the neighboring property owners. PROBLEM: The City planning harassed buyers and red tagged their operations when purchasing sand from Porretto.

E. This Federal order allowed a Safe Environment for children, adults, tourists, etc. to be established again while the city and state refused to assist in doing so.

F. The order also improved the environment for natural habitat and wildlife.

G. NO ADVERSE AFFECTS OF ORDER . More area now exists for naturally accreted sand to be stockpiled and used for the integrity of the Island and Seawall that borders PORRETTO BEACH.

SADLY, we seemed to have reversed into hindrances again Summer 2010 when:           1.) Sonya Porretto allowed the United State Corps of Engineers to take 1/2 of her entrance ramp for the rock groin repair yet, had to move her business sign over a few feet. In moving her sign to accommodate the County and USACE, the city, 1 year later red tags Porretto for the sign being moved. In addition, cuts all utilities off until sign is re-permitted with 'new' sign codes that restrict her use of the existing sign and would incur additional expenses to replace. PORRETTO BEACH STILL PREVAILED making PORRETTO BEACH operations just as successful for those who visit regularly and are our above par clients they remained faithful and choose PORRETTO BEACH to spend their time with us despite the attemps to hinder operations. Link:                                                                                                      2.)  Sand and Shoreline damage, theft and inappropriate maintenacne through approved General Land Office Beach Access Plan with the city of Galveston and park board Maintenance was harming and destroying PORRETTO BEACH shoreline accuracy in elevation and accretion/erosion data submitted by the state to further continuing claiming erroneous data and funds to supplement their deficits. Once again, with federal courts involvement addressing the matter Porretto was able to assist in circumventing anymore wasted tax dollars for the citizens of Galveston, Texas and federal funding misappropriated. maintaining business operations nonetheless and providing the best to their customers despite the continued obstacles.
